COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
STEEL BAR, REINFORCING
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in preference to Federal Specification QQ-S-632.
This commercial item description covers steel bars for use in reinforcing concrete.
Salient characteristics.
1. The steel bars shall conform to the requirements of ASTM A615, A616, or A617 as specified.
2. The steel bars shall be deformed or plain as specified.
3. The bar designation number shall be as specified.
4. The grade (yield strength in ksi) shall be as specified.
5. The length of steel bar shall be as specified.
The issue of ASTM A615, A616, or A617 in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with the stated requirements.
Workmanship. Bars shall be free of defects which affect serviceability.
Regulatory requirements. The contractor/offeror is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking. The preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
